Hello, I am Adam and I’ve recently been volunteering in Nic’s Scunthorpe office. I am hoping the experience gained here will prove valuable.
I would like to have a career in politics in the future (probably from spending too much time watching Yes,Minister and The Thick of It!) and hope to gain a greater insight into the workings of an MP.
Having finished my first year studying politics at the University of Nottingham, I recently spent 2 days in Westminster with Nic and his assistant, Lawrence. It was thoroughly interesting brushing shoulders with famous politicians in Parliament.
I aided Nic by helping write his Enewsletter for June, researched some contact details for him and perhaps more so out of personal interest watched PMQ’s live. Perhaps one of the most entertaining parts of my visits was a researchers’ event Lawrence and I attended; this was in no small part due to the generous bar tab the political consulting group hosting the event had provided.
Since last volunteering for Nic, I have become much more heavily involved within the Labour party. I went out campaigning often in my University constituency Nottingham South for Lilian Greenwood and for various local council candidates’ very successful campaigns during the general and local elections.
I’ve also become involved within the leadership contest helping my choice candidate Andy Burnham during his leadership campaign. Only last Saturday I somehow managed to find myself squeezed in the back seat of a car between Andy and ‘Inside the Commons’ star Steve Rotheram on the way from Leeds to Hull. Though, admittedly, my contributions to his campaign have amounted to little more than selling raffle tickets and giving social media advice whilst chatting about football.
